Policy Board Responsibilities

Policy Board Responsibilities

1) Participate in all Policy Board meetings (typically at VAR headquarters in Richmond).

2) Attend Policy Board meetings at both VAR Conferences… Legislative & Education Conference (February) and Annual Convention/Trade Fair (September).

During these conferences, attend:
a) Policy Board meeting (business session)
b) Policy Board meeting (general session/AG recommendations)
c) State Town Hall Forum
d) Delegate Body Meeting
e) Local Association Forums (if possible)
f) National Town Hall Forum (if possible)
g) Advocacy Group meetings (if possible)
h) Legislative Reception-Legislative Conference (if possible)
i) Installation Banquet- Convention
j) Day on the Hill-Legislative Conference (if possible)
k) Other events as appropriate

3) Remain current on statewide issues by reading Leaders' Digest, Commonwealth magazine, the Hotsheet, Advocacy Group minutes, etc.

4) Serve as part of VAR's "Outreach Team" by maintaining contact (providing information and gathering feedback) with VAR's key stakeholders, especially Local Association officers and key member firm principals.

5) Assist and advise the Leadership Team in identifying future VAR (and NAR) leaders from around the state.

6) Become familiar with VAR Bylaws, Strategic Plan, Annual Budget, and other governing documents.

7) Observe "Fiduciary Duties of a Board of Directors" in making decisions on behalf of the Virginia Association of REALTORS®.

8) Submit travel reimbursement requests (with receipts) within 45 days of the event.
