Foundation Grant Review Guidelines
- A Foundation grant is to support and promote real estate knowledge and real property rights by providing and disbursing funds for quality educational services and programs for the public and real estate profession.
- Only grant requests from REALTOR® member associations and other non-profit, 501(c)3 or 501(c)6 organizations whose missions are consistent with the Foundation's will be considered.
- Examples of services and programs that may be funded include fair housing research, curriculum development, Code of Ethics, legal updates and scholarships.
- Examples of programs that may not be funded include:
- Programs leading to a designation
- Motivational programs
- Programs designed to enhance company or agent profitability or income
- Grants are for the benefit of the general public and the VAR membership.
- It is recommended that all Grant Requests are submitted 60 days in advance of the delivery date of the program for which grant is being requested, but they must be submitted at least 45 days in advance of event to allow for appropriate processing, which includes verification of documentation by Foundation Trustees. This includes but is not limited to event description, flyers, budget, as well as income and expense statement.
- The required outline should contain a summary of the program as it relates to the mission of the Foundation and include:
- Executive summary
- Description of the organization and evidence of its tax status
- Statement of purpose
- Issue to which the proposed program is directed
- Qualifications of the program manager
- Effective October 1, 2005, all Grant Requests must include a complete Financial Budget of total income (itemized by source), total expenses (by line item) and projected net income. Grant requests that do not include all necessary budget information will not be presented.
- Work schedule and timetable
- Organization's criteria for success
- Plans for publicity
- Specific amount requested
- All grant requests will be sent to Foundation staff before being considered by Trustees.
- Staff will review each grant request for completeness. If necessary, staff will return the request to the applicant for more information.
- Grants will not be considered for:
- Individuals
- Labor groups
- Fraternal groups
- Religious groups
- Lobbying purposes
- Capital campaigns
- Travel
- Fundraising
- Staff will prepare copies of each request and forward to the Foundation Trustees and Foundation Legal Counsel.
- The Foundation Legal Counsel will review grant requests before they are presented to the Foundation Trustees. Staff will notify requestors of the Foundation’s decision.
- Approved grants will be disbursed upon receipt and review of the Grant Reporting Form. The Grant Reporting Form must be received within 60 days of the completion of the event.
- Appropriate recognition of the Foundation grant will be made during the event and documentation of such shall be sent with the Grant Reporting Form.
- Grants approved will be time specific and carry an expiration date. Applicants will be advised of the expiration and notified by Foundation staff.
