Continuing Education: As of July 1, 2007, the required course hours for the mandatory topics is changing. You must have a total of 16 hours of continuing education with 8 hours in the mandatory topics which includes 2 hours in Fair Housing, 3 hours in ethics and standards of conduct, and the remaining hours must be a minimum of 1 hour in each of the following categories: Legal Updates, Real Estate Agency, Real Estate Contracts. The remaining hours may be in real estate related topics or in the mandatory topics.
Virginia Post License Education (licensed after 1/1/04 and in your first licensing period): As of January 1, 2004, new licensees need to take 30-hours of post-licensure education in lieu of taking any continuing education courses for the first two years after they receive their license. See enclosure. Note: Once you renew your license, you will take Continuing Education.
NOTE: All active licensees renewing their license between 7/1/2007 and 6/30/2009, must complete two hours in Limited Service Agency. This is in addition to the 16 hours of continuing education or the 30 hours of post license education the licensee is required to complete.
